Conference Photos are Up!

One last hello –

Hello :)

Thank you so much, again, to everyone who helped make this conference so special — presenters, discussants, volunteers, speakers, supporters, audience members; the list goes on. This was a remarkable experience for us and we’re eternally grateful to all of you.

We hope to see you all again at next year’s conference, which will be announced on the CSPT website in the new year.

Until then, we’ll leave you with a few photos cobbled together from the 2015 CSPT Graduate Student Conference, Human Being Human:

Is this the part where we’re supposed to tell you what to do? (share, comment, indoctrinate, etc). Certainly we wouldn’t do that.

With warmest regards,

Phil, Susan & Yusuf

What a Beautiful Event

Hello everyone,

We’re still reeling from an incredible weekend that ended far too soon, in our humble opinions. Stay tuned over the coming days as we tie up the loose ends and pull together our event photos to share.

In the meantime please share your own thoughts and photos with your friends using #hbh2015. It would seem disingenuous for us alone to say how special this conference has been!

Much love & respect,

Phil, Susan & Yusuf

Registration for Dr. Spivak’s keynote is now closed!

As the title suggests, we’ve reached capacity for this evening’s keynote address from Dr. Spivak and thus had to close registrations for the night.

With that said, we have no way to know whether 200 registrations will equal 200 guests, and will therefore open the doors to unregistered guests 10 minutes before the event begins. Please note however that we cannot guarantee you a seat if you have not registered.

Registration for the rest of the conference (Sunday and Monday) will resume tonight at midnight. Registrations will also be accepted in person each morning, in the A-Wing lobby of the David Turpin Building Lobby.

Thank you very much for your understanding with this matter.

Almost a Sold Out Show

Hey all,

Just a quick note to let you know that we’re coming close to capacity for Saturday night’s keynote address with Gayatri Spivak. If you haven’t registered already, do it now!

Priority will be given to registered guests, meaning those without a registration will only be admitted in the last 10 minutes before the event starts.

We’re thrilled to have received so much attention for the event, and can’t wait to see you all tomorrow!

Hot Off the Press!

‘Human Being Human’ posters are officially available for your visual consumption

You can take a peek by clicking on the thumbnail to the right, but we would most appreciate if you would share this version of the poster with your friends/comrades/colleagues/allies online, or print either the 8.5 x 11″ or 11 x 17″ version in black & white or colour to post in a public space.

We owe many thanks to Nele Brönner, whose beautiful illustration is the centerpiece of the poster. You can view Nele’s work at www.nelebroenner.com.

Please also take a moment to notice the supporters at the bottom of the poster – without them there would be no poster at all~

And don’t forget to register for the conference if you haven’t already. Space is filling up fast.

Excited to Announce Dr. Glen Coulthard’s Endnote Address!

It is our privilege to welcome Dr. Glen Coulthard to the University of Victoria for the 2015 CSPT Graduate Student Conference to provide us with an endnote address on Monday, May 25th.

According to the University of British Columbia, Glen Coulthard (PhD – University of Victoria) is a member of the Yellowknives Dene First Nation and an assistant professor in the First Nations and Indigenous Studies Program and the Department of Political Science. He has written and published numerous articles and chapters in the areas of indigenous thought and politics, contemporary political theory, and radical social and political thought.

Dr. Coulthard’s book, Red Skin, White Masks: Rejecting the Colonial Politics of Recognition (University of Minnesota Press), was recently released in August 2014. His co-edited book, Recognition versus Self-Determination: Dilemmas of Emancipatory Politics, was released in spring 2014 by UBC Press. He and Dr. Dory Nason were also featured contributors to the groundbreaking anthology, The Winter We Danced: Voices from the Past, the Future, and the Idle No More Movement (ARP Books), which was released to great acclaim in March 2014.

Details of his talk will be posted soon. Keep an eye on the site for more updates!

A Brief Hello

Hello friends!

This is but a brief hello to check in and let you know that we’re still around and working dedicatedly behind the scenes to make this the best conference ever to be held on May 23 – 25, 2015, at the University of Victoria!

Offers have now been sent to prospective panelists, and the details are quickly coming together. (hint: we’ve added a really exciting speaker, a very grounding opening & closing ceremony, and a public book-signing event by our Keynote speaker, Dr. Gayatri Spivak).

Watch this space for several exciting announcements over the next few weeks!

Submissions Received!

We’re excited to report that the deadline for submissions has passed and the review process is under way!

Thank you very much to everyone who sent in a proposal for this conference (and also to those who wanted to; we’re all grad students, we know how it is). You should have received an email from us by now to confirm receipt of your submission.

Successful applicants will be notified no later than mid-April, if not sooner.

Registration for the event is still open in the meantime, so book your tickets before it’s too late!

– Phil, on behalf of the Conference Committee
